Learning any languages, including English, can't be separated from vocabulary comprehension. Building vocabulary is crucial and cannot be neglected. Simply put, we have plenty of grammar skills, but what happen if we lack of vocabulary?

Gaining new words can be done by memorizing new words or phrases. Reading is the best way to improve students' vocabulary. The key thing we have to realize is that mastering new vocabulary can't be accomplished by memorizing one time. In other words, we have to repeat new phrases again and again until we master the phrases.

Here I am trying to give you some tips how to build vocabulary in 2 different ways:
1. Memorizing
Take a small book to write every time you find a new word. The notebook should be as small as possible so you can put it in your pocket and take it everywhere you go. If you normally write individual words, from now on, do not do that anymore. Instead, writing a full phrase, even better a full sentence. Why?
A phrase is more powerful than a word since it has some kind of description what situation you should use the phrase. It will become more natural and fast. Let's take an example!
Do not write the word "focus", but write "focus on something" or "focus on my job" etc. From then you will begin to understand the whole meaning of the word "focus" and know how to use it. By doing this your English is going to be more automatic and natural. In fact, some language experts stated that memorizing full phrases (not single words) is the best way to boost speaking skills.

2. Reading and Listening Repeatedly
Reading repeatedly means that you read a text or any kind of writing many times. If you have an article that contains a lot of new vocabulary, read it many, many times. You don't need to read it repeatedly at the same time. Instead, read it once today, read it again tomorrow, and so on until you feel the new words have stuck on your mind and you can easily use them. It's better to read materials that are interesting to you. Because if you take materials you are not interested in, you will be lazy and finally you will learn more slowly.
